Buy BC and Kaslo Sourdough – a Summer 2021 Update!
We are very happy to share some good news that we received at the end of May: Kaslo Sourdough was a successful applicant to the Buy BC Partnership Program, which is administered by the Agriculture Investment Foundation of BC. The broader Buy BC Partnership Program has several goals, including:
- enabling companies like ours to take part in sector or product specific Buy BC marketing activities to increase local market share, product sales and consumer awareness;
- ensuring consumers can easily identify B.C. agri-food products at the point of sale;
- building and maintaining Buy BC brand recognition; and,
- building a greater awareness of, and demand for, local food and beverage products across the province.
The program has two main components: a licensing component and a cost-sharing funding component, and this year we were successful in applying to the cost-sharing funding. As a BC-based company focused on high quality food manufacturing, we are proud to distinguish our business as a BC business in the Canadian and international grocery market with the Buy BC logo.
We previously obtained a license for using the Buy BC logo in 2018, and with our successful application this year, we are able to participate in the cost-sharing program to add the logo to our new packaging. We are happy that this allows us to contribute to Buy BC brand recognition and helping promote that we are a local-to-BC company. We’re able to take part in sector and product specific Buy BC marketing, which for us will be beneficial: as a small, family-run business, we can always learn more about how better to promote our products and help differentiate the foods we produce in the grocery industry.
In the past few months, we’ve been making some design updates to our packaging (you may notice a few changes coming up!), so the timing for the support from this program couldn’t have been better. We came up with a new design that is responsive to feedback from grocers and retailers who carry us, as well as recommendations from a Cornerstone Sales, a sales company we recently partnered with. We’ll be implementing these changes coming up in October 2021, and supported by additional marketing over the last months of the year.
We’re really grateful to be taking part in the program this year and to be a part of a broader group of products that like ours, are grown and produced in our wonderful province. It was certainly a bright bit of news for us amid a very busy spring. So, you will notice a difference to our packaging in the coming weeks, including the flashy logo we get to add for taking part in this program!
